Mandy and I went to a fancy dress party over the weekend. Mandy has made some friends with the local mums and tots group from Congleton, so we went to a 30th birthday party.
We received an invite a few weeks ago for this party, and it said "70's fancy dress", to which I said "wasn't punk started in the 70's?". After looking at 70's fashion on fancy dress websites (which seemed to encompass the American styles, and had very little British influence) I finally decided to go with my initial idea of punk. To this end I bought a pair of jeans (I don't have any other pairs), some green hair spray and some really cheap hair gel from Tescos. You may not think that punk is very 70's, but did you know that this year is the 30th anniversary of punk? Also, all of the music that we associate with punk (Sex Pistols et al) started in the 70's.
It took 2 full hours to do my hair, and that doesn't include the couple of hours during the week where we practised creating the hair style that would work (my hair isn't long enough for a Mowhawk).
Mandy chose to go as a hippy and bought this nylon dress from an online store, but when she saw me fully dressed up she just said "I wish I had gone as a punk now...". Maybe next time Mandy! :)
Even though I didn't know anyone at the party but Mandy I did have a good time, the hair was actually the talking point of the party. Everyone was very impressed, and some people just had to touch it. Because I had never met anyone from the party before they said it was hard to picture me with normal hair. Here are some pictures.

Luckily there was another punk at the party, so I wasn't the only one dressed up like this.

So where was Matthew during all of this? Well my sister was kind enough to baby sit for the night, and she seemed to get on quite well. Thanks Kate!
